The Supersonic Nural is Dyson's sensor-packed hair dryer, aimed at people who dry their hair often and want the dryer to manage heat for them. A network of Nural sensors adjusts airflow and temperature automatically. The headline feature is Scalp protect mode, which uses a distance sensor to keep the air at the scalp near a target of 55°C.

- Attachment learning recognises each tool and recalls your settings.

Good to know

- This version is listed for straight and wavy hair.
Our take
The sensors in plain terms
Scalp protect mode relies on a Time of Flight sensor that measures how far the dryer is from your head and changes the temperature to suit. A Hall sensor recognises each attachment as it clicks on and recalls your usual settings for it. Pause detect uses an accelerometer: when you put the dryer down, it turns off the heater and drops the airflow.
Dyson claims a three times stronger scalp barrier with Scalp protect mode compared with air drying, alongside more shine and balanced oils.
Settings and attachments
There are four heat settings, given as 100°C, 80°C, 60°C and a constant 28°C cool, plus three airflow settings and a 28°C cold shot. Five attachments are listed for straight and wavy hair: a Gentle air attachment, Styling concentrator, Smoothing nozzle, Wave and curl diffuser, and a Flyaway attachment. Air Multiplier technology is stated to amplify airflow three times, and negative ions are added to reduce static.
Power and weight
The listing gives 1,600 W, 240 V and 684 g, finished in ceramic pink and rose gold. That is a little heavier than the Supersonic Origin at 640 g, which reflects the extra sensors. Dyson's guarantee is not stated in this particular listing.
Nural or Origin
The Dyson Supersonic Origin shares the 1,600 W rating and intelligent heat control, but comes with a single styling concentrator and none of the Nural sensors. If you only need fast drying and a smooth finish, it does the core job. The Nural makes more sense if you diffuse curls or waves, since the diffuser is included, or if scalp comfort is a priority. Neither curls or straightens on its own, so pair either with a styler such as the Dyson Airwrap i.d. for shaped looks.
Verdict
Buy the Supersonic Nural if you want a dryer that adjusts its own heat, comes with a diffuser and four other attachments, and protects against leaving it blasting on the counter. If you just want quick drying with fewer extras, the Dyson Supersonic Origin covers that, and the Dyson Airwrap i.d. is the pick if you want drying and curling in one.
