The Airwrap Co-anda 2X is Dyson's top multi-styler, aimed at people with straight to wavy hair who want one handle to dry, curl, wave, smooth and straighten. What sets it apart from earlier Airwraps is the Gen2 motor: Dyson says it is 30% more powerful and gives twice the air pressure of the Airwrap i.d., which it links to curls that last all day and straighter results from the new straightening attachment.

In its favour

  • The 40 mm barrel is listed as a hair waver for loose waves on mid-length to longer hair.
  • A tapered conical barrel adds natural-looking curls from root to tip.
  • Air temperature is measured over 1,000 times a second, according to Dyson.

Good to know

  • It is aimed at straight to wavy hair, so curly hair types are not the target.
  • The listing does not give a maximum temperature in degrees.

Our take

What comes in the box

The listing names six attachments. The Fast dryer 2x is described as a full performance blow dryer for taking hair from wet to dry. The Conical Co-anda2x barrel tapers for natural curls from root to tip, and the 40 mm Co-anda2x barrel is pitched as a hair waver for loose waves on mid-length to longer hair. There is an Air straightener 2x, a Large round volumising brush 2x and an Anti-snag loop brush 2x, plus a presentation case for storage.

The specs section also mentions a 30 mm barrel and an Airsmooth2x attachment, which does not quite match the bullet list, so it is worth checking the box contents on the product photos before ordering.

Air straightening and curling explained

Curling relies on the Coanda effect: fast air pulls a section of hair round the barrel so you do not wind it by hand. The i.d. curl sequence senses movement and adjusts heat, airflow and timing to suit your hair, so each wrap is more consistent. The Air straightener 2x combines high velocity airflow with aerothermal plates and is stated to straighten wet to dry in as little as one pass.

Dyson says air temperature is measured over 1,000 times a second. The listing does not give a maximum figure in degrees, which makes it harder to compare with plate stylers.

Connected features and daily use

New intelligent attachments adapt to the best heat and airflow and remember your preferred settings. Through Bluetooth and the MyDyson app you answer six questions about hair type and length, and the app builds an automated styling sequence. Amazon lists 1,300 W, 716 g and a ceramic pink and rose gold finish for this version.

Against the Airwrap i.d. and Airwrap Origin

Compared with the Dyson Airwrap i.d., the Co-anda 2X adds the straightening attachment and the stronger motor while keeping the app-driven curl sequence. The Dyson Airwrap Origin is far simpler, with three attachments and a single 40 mm barrel, but it is listed for coily, curly, straight and wavy hair, whereas the Co-anda 2X is listed only for straight to wavy textures. People with tight curls or coils should keep that difference in mind.

Verdict

Buy the Co-anda 2X if you have straight to wavy hair and want the widest set of jobs from one Dyson tool, including air straightening. If you only want waves and a smooth blow-dry, the Dyson Airwrap Origin covers that with fewer parts, and the Dyson Airwrap i.d. keeps the app-guided curls without the extra straightener.
