The Supersonic Origin is the original Dyson Supersonic hair dryer in a nickel and copper finish. It is for people who want Dyson's fast, controlled drying without paying attention to sensors, apps or a drawer of attachments. One styling concentrator comes in the box, and the focus is squarely on drying quickly with regulated heat.

Our take
Motor and airflow
The Dyson Digital Motor V9 spins at up to 110,000 rpm and, according to the listing, generates 3.5 kPa of pressure while moving 13 litres of air each second up to the amplifier. Air Multiplier technology then turns that into a high pressure jet for fast drying and focused styling. The power rating is 1,600 W on 240 V.
Heat control
A glass bead thermistor measures exit temperature 40 times every second and regulates the heater, which Dyson says protects shine and prevents extreme heat damage. You get four heat settings and three speeds, so you can use high speed for rough drying and a lower speed for controlled smoothing with a brush. The listing does not state the temperature of each heat setting.
In the box and in the hand
Only the styling concentrator is included. It narrows the airflow for smoothing section by section and works well with a round or paddle brush for a salon-style finish. There is no diffuser, so people with curls who diffuse will need a separate attachment or a different model.
Amazon lists 640 g, with an aluminium body. Dyson describes the design as balanced and easy to hold.
Dyson suggests a simple routine for volume: pre-dry clean hair, lift the roots with a large round brush and follow it with the concentrator. For a straight finish, dry section by section with the concentrator pointing down the hair shaft.
Where the Origin fits
The Dyson Supersonic Nural adds Scalp protect mode, attachment learning, pause detect and five attachments including a diffuser. Those are real extras for some routines, but they are not needed for straightforward drying. For one tool that dries and styles, the Dyson Airwrap Origin uses a similar V9 motor and adds a 40 mm barrel and loop brush.
Verdict
The Supersonic Origin is the right Dyson dryer for anyone who wants fast, regulated drying and a concentrator for smoothing, and nothing more. Choose the Dyson Supersonic Nural if you diffuse curls or want sensor-led heat at the scalp, or the Dyson Airwrap Origin if you would rather dry and style with the same handle.
