The Dyson Airsmooth is a hot air brush for people whose main goal is a smooth, polished blowout, without the bulk of a full multi-styler. It dries, stretches, smooths and shapes from towel-dried hair in a single tool. The detail that sets it apart is the teardrop brush head, which Dyson designed to get close to the roots all round the head, including the back and crown.

Our take
Brush head and bristles
The teardrop shape is meant for root access: you can reach near the scalp for smooth roots and some natural lift, then glide down through the mid-lengths. Dyson describes dual bristle technology with soft, anti-snag bristles that release hair easily. In its own survey figures, 95% reported a snag-free session and 96% said the bristles felt comfortable on the scalp. A bristle protector is included.
Heat control and settings
A glass bead thermistor checks airflow temperature more than 20 times a second, to avoid heat damage according to Dyson. The specs list three speeds and four settings, with a 1,080 W motor in the handle on 240 V. The listing does not give a temperature figure in degrees, so you cannot compare its maximum heat directly with brushes that publish one.
Dyson claims faster drying and less frizz than air drying, and less breakage than the top-selling hot air brush in its comparison.
Weight and travel
Dyson gives a weight of 580 g, with the motor in the handle for balance, though Amazon's spec shows 620 g, probably including the protector. It adapts to the local voltage automatically, so it can go on holidays and work trips without a converter, only a plug adaptor where the socket shape differs. The guarantee is 2 years.
Airsmooth, Duet Blowdry or Airwrap
The ghd Duet Blowdry is the closest rival, with a heated elliptical barrel and a single setting, and ghd lists a 120°C maximum. The Airsmooth gives more control through its speeds and settings and is far lighter on paper. If you want curls as well as smoothing, the Dyson Airwrap Origin adds a 40 mm barrel and a dryer attachment, at the cost of more parts to store.
Verdict
Choose the Airsmooth if a fast, smooth blowout from wet is what you want most, especially if you travel and want a light tool. Pick the ghd Duet Blowdry if you prefer a stated maximum temperature and a barrel built for volume, or the Dyson Airwrap Origin if you also want waves from the same handle.
