The Dyson Corrale is a cordless straightener with flexing copper alloy plates for use on dry hair. Choose the Airstrait if you want to skip the separate blow dry and like a soft, natural straight finish; choose the Corrale for sleeker, flatter results, curls and waves, and cordless styling.

Our verdict
Choose the Dyson Airstrait if you want to dry and straighten from wet in one step with a soft, natural finish. Choose the Dyson Corrale if you style dry hair and want a sleek plate finish, curls and waves and cordless freedom.
Dyson makes two straightening tools that work in completely different ways. The Airstrait is a wet to dry styler that uses two jets of air instead of plates, so you can go from towel dried hair to straight. The Corrale is a plate straightener with flexing plates and a battery, used on dry hair. They overlap on the goal but not on the method, so the right choice depends on your routine and the finish you want. This guide uses Dyson's published descriptions and the Airstrait's Amazon UK listing.
How each one straightens
The Airstrait propels two jets of air downwards through the hair at an angle, which Dyson says creates tension while the air dries and straightens. Glass bead thermistors measure the airflow temperature up to 500 times a second, and the listing says it senses when hair is between the arms. Because there are no hot plates, the hair is never pressed between heated metal. Dyson states this means no heat damage, based on its own testing.
The Corrale heats manganese copper alloy plates that flex to gather the section, applying even tension so you can style at lower settings than a rigid iron, according to Dyson. It works like a conventional straightener on dry hair and can curl, flick and wave as well.

Time and routine
The Airstrait's big advantage is removing a step. Dyson says it can save up to 8 minutes per style compared with drying then straightening, because you towel dry, choose wet mode and glide through each section once. If your current routine is a full blow dry followed by straighteners, the Airstrait replaces both.
The Corrale needs dry hair, so you still blow dry first. Its time saving is different: no cable to manage and fewer passes on thick hair, Dyson says, thanks to the flexing plates. If you air dry overnight or style on second day hair, the Corrale fits that routine better.
Finish and hair type
Airflow styling tends to leave hair straight with body and movement, similar to a good blow dry, rather than the pin straight, flat finish of plates. Dyson says the Airstrait suits straight, wavy, curly and coily hair, and its guidance recommends working section by section from the back upwards for curly and coily hair. Results on very tight curls depend on technique and section size.
The Corrale gives the sleeker, glassier finish of a plate iron and can create curls and waves. If you want poker straight hair or like to curl with your straightener, the Corrale or another plate iron does more. For other wet to dry choices, see our guide to the best wet to dry straighteners.
Who should choose which

Safety
Both tools heat air or plates enough to burn. Keep the Airstrait's air outlets and the Corrale's plates away from your scalp and skin. The Airstrait is an electrical appliance used on wet hair, so never use it near a filled sink or bath. The Corrale contains a lithium battery, so charge it only with Dyson's dock or cable on a hard surface.
Note:Follow the safety instructions in each Dyson manual. Do not use a tool with a damaged cable, casing or battery, and contact Dyson support if it shows a fault.
